Jio May Become PUBG Distributor in India

Business Today has reported that the South Korean PUBG Corporation may team up with Reliance Jio to resume operations in India. It claims that the gaming firm is reportedly in talks to rope in the telecommunication arm of the Reliance Industries Ltd’s as the publisher and distributor of PUBG in India. PUBG Mobile was enjoying a massive popularity in India before it became part of the Indian government’s blanket ban on 115 Chinese applications in the country. Notably, certain media sources and reports have even claimed that the two tech firms have already reached an initial understanding and are now in the process of negotiating localisation of the gaming app and revenue sharing.

PUBG Fans Await Official Confirmations

But, it might still be a bit early to rejoice as we are yet to hear official confirmations from either of the two firms. Going by the speculations, Reliance Jio may also incentivise Jio users further to register on PUBG Lite. It will apparently be rewarding Jio registrations on PUBG Lite with exclusive offers and rewards. We also saw an earlier partnership between Jio and PUBG in 2019 under which Jio users had received rewards on the purchase of in-game merchandise on PUBG.

What the two stand to gain from Reliance Jio-PUBG deal?

However, it won’t be an exclusive gain for either but a win-win for both. PUBG will get to resume operations in one of its largest markets post the PUBG ban in India while Reliance will get to further venture into another tech sphere of gaming through the deal. As per a Sensor Tower report, India accounted for a massive 24% of total PUBG installations around the world with more than 175 million installations in the country. However, another noteworthy fact remains despite its large user base, India does not account for even Top 10 PUBG revenue generator markets. But, PUBG has definitely lost a significant chance for further growth in one of its most promising markets with the India ban. He had remarkably said that online gaming may soon become bigger than even the most popular entertainment mediums including movies, TV and music put together in the coming years.
