A production line began its operation in Chennai to assemble iPhone 14 for sale in the Indian market. This is the first time that assembling is happening outside of China in the same year as the release of the product. This step is taken to disentangle Apple iPhone’s manufacturing operations from China.
Largest smartphone market
India is the second-largest smartphone market in the world after China. Apple has been assembling its devices since 2017 in China. However, now, manufacturing units are being set up in Brazil as well along with India to assemble older models. Watch this YouTube video:
Apple’s plan for production
Apple aims to produce 1/4th of its iPhone 14 in India by 2015 and the same proportion in other countries outside of China. It is also targeting to produce 1/5th of Apple Watches and iPads along with more than ½ its AirPods in factories in Vietnam by 2025. Latest range of products
Apple launched its latest line of iPhone models earlier this month. The new devices will have faster processors, improved cameras, and long-lasting batteries while the price would remain the same as the models launched last year.
