COVID vaccine approval came days after a government-appointed experts’ panel gave clearance to the vaccines. Drug Controller General of India VG Somani said, “We’ll never approve anything if there is slightest of safety concern. The vaccines are 110 per cent safe. Some side effects like mild fever, pain and allergy are common for every vaccine.”

COVID App: Co-WIN

To ensure everybody in the country can benefit from the COVID Vaccine, the government of India has recently launched Co-WIN app, a COVID-19 Vaccine Intelligence Network system. Co-WIN app is a digitised platform, which will be used to track the enlisted beneficiaries and the COVID-19 vaccines on a real-time basis. The main aim of the Co-WIN app is to help agencies track the distribution of COVID-19 vaccines as well as enable citizens of the country to register for the vaccination process.

Working of Co-WIN App

According to a statement issued by Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan,  “The digital platform Co-WIN application and dashboard will help monitor the entire vaccination process.” The Co-WIN mobile app would also send real-time data of temperature of the cold-storage facilities to the main server. The app comprises:

Administrator module – This module would consist of administrators who would be conducting these vaccination sessions will further create sessions for those who need to get vaccinated.Vaccination module – This will help in verifying beneficiary details and update vaccination status.Beneficiary acknowledgement module – This section will be responsible for sending out SMS to the beneficiaries and also generate QR-based certificates once the beneficiary is vaccinated.Report module – This will consist of reports of how many vaccine sessions have been conducted, how many people have attended those, how many people have dropped out, etc.

In accordance with the guidelines issued by the government, the latest electoral roll for Lok Sabha and Legislative Assembly elections will be used to identify the priority population over the age of 50, eligible for the vaccine. In order to avail the vaccine, it is mandatory for everyone to pre-register on the COVID app. Each individual will be expected to present 12 photo identity documents, including Aadhaar card, voter ID, driving license, passport, and pension document, amongst others. The govt. has decided to give priority to healthcare workers, frontline workers, and those above the age of 50 will be given priority for the vaccination. This will be followed by those who are below 50 but have certain comorbidities. After the vaccine is administered, the person will have to remain in the premises for about 30 minutes for observation.

CO-Win App on Android:

Android users across the country will be able to download and install the Co-WIN app directly from Google Play Store soon after the app is released.

CO-Win App for iOS Users
